Behind the Scenes of “Good News with Lacey Speaks” Episode 2

Every episode of Good News begins with a spark and a story, a moment, or a ripple of kindness that reminds me why this project exists; to spotlight Love in Action and the beauty of community connection.

Opening with Love: Supporting Jamaica

When Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica, my heart immediately turned toward our brothers and sisters on the island. Opening the episode with a call to action wasn’t just news; it was an invitation to unite through compassion. Sometimes, “good news” is simply us choosing to respond with love. I’ve shared trusted donation links in the comments, so if you feel called to give, please do. Small acts move mountains.

Local Energy at Tear Drop Steakhouse

Filming this segment reminded me why I love Dayton so deeply. Tear Drop Steakhouse is more than a restaurant; it’s a heartbeat. Chef Jay’s vision for community connection shines through every plate, and I hear that the “Wellness Experience” event, featuring The Wellness Lady, was pure joy. That’s what good energy looks like in motion.

Abundance in Action: Dayton Foundation & Omega CDC

When I learned about the partnership between the Dayton Foundation and Omega Community Development Corporation, I was moved by the way it’s transforming lives.

The RE-LITE NITE program gives teens a place to belong; complete with music, mentorship, and mental-health support. Hearing a youth ambassador say, “This program gave me confidence to step outside my comfort zone,” that’s abundance realized.

Divine Design: Barb Smoot & WELD

In Columbus, I was inspired by Barb Smoot, President & CEO of WELD (Women for Economic and Leadership Development). Barb’s story embodies Divine Design: two decades of experience turned into empowerment for thousands of women. Her words stayed with me: “When women lead, communities prosper.” That’s not just a quote … it’s a blueprint for the world we’re co-creating.

Connection & Love in Detroit

The final segment took us to Detroit, where Malik Yakini and the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network are cultivating something powerful. At D-Town Farm, they’re growing food, but they’re also growing self-reliance, connection, and community pride.

It’s proof that Love can take root anywhere, and that abundance truly grows from the ground up.
